Eclectic (Blend of useful approaches)
Clients call a counselor because they want to feel relief…and quickly. I find that most clients need a flexible, tailor-made approach that works with the client’s strengths and goals and effectively gets to the heart of the issue at hand. To do that I often blend a variety of helpful approaches that might include cognitive behavioral (CBT), social skills training, existential therapy (finding meaning and purpose in life), solution-focused therapy, and acceptance commitment therapy (ACT–exploring values and committing to change). I ultimately want to work side-by-side with my client to find the best practices that work!
