EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

Many clients enter counseling with post traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties and have no idea the role past trauma plays in their current lives.  The triggers in the present can have ties to past negligence or abuse or can even be related to a single traumatic event.  I have seen amazing results with the depth of processing available with EMDR.  It helps clients to integrate their emotions, thoughts, and bodily responses while re-processing those troublesome events in a very different and safe way.

“Approximately 20 controlled studies have investigated the effects of EMDR. These studies have consistently found that EMDR effectively decreases/eliminates the symptoms of post traumatic stress for the majority of clients.  EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach intended to treat psychological disorders, to alleviate human suffering and to assist individuals to fulfill their potential for development, while minimizing risks of harm in its application. For the client, EMDR treatment aims to achieve comprehensive treatment safely, effectively and efficiently, while maintaining client stability.”   (Taken from EMDRIA International Association; www.emdria.org)
